We have shot weddings at all kinds of places churches, chapels, cathedrals, venues, parks, hotels, and prisons……wait…prison weddings? Yeah not like Orange is the New Black or anything, more like gorgeous vintage dresses and classic black suits. So long story short, back in the fall we shot John and Sarah’s engagement photos. When they told us about their plan to get married at the court house in Raleigh on June 1st. Well, Wake county decided during the Covid-19 crisis to move their magistrate to the Wake County Detention Center. So even though John and Sarah’s original plan went out the window, they still made a day out of it. And gorgeous day it was.
Literally the most perfect weather, sunny and warm with a slight breeze. When we arrived Sarah was just getting out of her car. She stepped out in a vintage gown, with a beautiful wildflower bouquet that she had made herself. Her gown, a timeless classic, worn once before when her mother walked down the aisle to marry her father in 1981. Beautiful sleeves and lace, missing the tell tell signs of the 80’s fashion with shoulder pads and ruffles, this dress looked as if Sarah could have found it at a local bridal shop last week.
John arrived directly afterwards. Just before they their first look, we tucked Sarah away so that these two could have just a moment for themselves. Once grabbing the magistrate, these two gave a quick “I do” and shared their first kiss as husband and wife.
Our first stop after leaving the detention center was where John and Sarah were first engaged, Doretha Dix Park. Our favorite part of elopement style weddings, is the ability to get every family combination that you can think of with the folks that are there to celebrate with you. This park has some amazing lighting even during the middle of the day.
One more quick stop at WRAL garden for some romantic photos of the newlyweds. These two must have practiced their posing from Fall to June since they obviously knew exactly what to do. Just before skipping off to their reception with their family, we had one more fun group shot!
We are so happy for this ‘Flye’ couple. We wish them many years of happiness and hope you love their photos as much as we do.
